If you have never been to counseling before, your first session can naturally be anxiety-provoking. It often helps to discuss this anxiety with your counselor. The first session is really designed for the counselor to gather information about you and what you are experiencing. This is also a time for you to determine if this counselor is a good fit for you and your needs. It is usually not until the second session that goals are established for counseling. After a session you may be given homework to increase your awareness of what’s going on both inside and outside of you. Doing this homework can accelerate the counseling process. If you have any questions as we work together, please don’t hesitate to ask me.
